Prior to this, she was the Interim Provost and Sr. V. P. at Fielding Graduate University. In her first career, Nursing, Willingham-Touré retired as the Chief Nursing Education and Research Officer at the Long Beach Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare Systems.
Later, as a faculty member at California State University-Long Beach, where, in addition to classroom and community-based teaching, she led processes which resulted in increases in the integration of service-learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Her PhD is in Education from the Claremont Graduate University. She is also Chair of the Board of Trustees of Goddard College (Vermont).
